Features of a Good And Free Webmail Service

No comments :

Gone are the days of communication when letters were used. Though it is still in existence, it is not frequently used. With the advent of computers and internet, email has become the latest globally acceptable language of the world. Received and sent in seconds, you can now use a free webmail service to communicate with anybody in the world. Though the physical distances have not altered but the emotional distances are almost reduced to none.

While using a free web mail service, you need to be extremely careful about the features offered by the service providers. With the myriad of service providers, deciding on which one to choose from can be a little difficult. Here are a few features which should be present in any free webmail service.

Another important feature is the ability of free web mail service to let its registered users chat. Some of the service providers might offer only chat facilities while others may offer video chat and Redshift.Net Webmail Login

well. Some of them even have the facility to chat from their respective mobile phones by getting their cell phone numbers registered.

The storage amount for mails and other folders is a feature which needs to be looked into very strongly. We all want to keep photographs and copies of email exchange between our friends and family members. A free web mail should offer a reasonably huge capacity of space. This could be extended later-on by the payment or by enrolling for upgraded membership.

One of the important features in the services provided by a free online network is whether the mails can be downloaded in your local email programs on your desktop. The email programs could be either Eudora or MS Outlook or any other program. Check whether the mail services provide POP download or not.

Another very distinctive feature is the kind of protection it offers from spam mails and viruses. With a lot of spam mails on the prowl, a good free webmail can be judged by the fact as to how aggressively it filters the spam mails and deals with them.

Since there are many free online networks to choose from, you should lay more emphasis on the services and features provided by them. Though it will be same but there could be subtle differences which could mean a lot to you as the user of those services.

“We will discuss with Buhari when he becomes president,” South Africa snubs Jonathan

No comments :
South Africa has faulted the decision of the federal government to recall its high commissioners, saying it would communicate diplomatically with Nigeria when Muhammadu Buhari becomes president in May.
Recalling that it did not take a similar action when many of its citizens where trapped during the collapse of a guest house at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos, it described the reaction of the Nigerian government as “unfortunate and regrettable”.
“The South African government takes note that the outgoing government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has recalled its acting high commissioner to South Africa,” read a statement issued by Clayson Monyela, spokesperson of the department of international relations and cooperation.
“A government resorts to such an extraordinary diplomatic step to express outrage at actions or behaviour of another government.

“We are not sure which actions or behaviour of the South African Government the Nigerian Government is protesting.
It is only Nigeria that has taken this unfortunate and regrettable step. If this action is based on the incidents of attacks on foreign nationals in some parts of our country, it would be curious for a sisterly country to want to exploit such a painful episode for whatever agenda.
“Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has just returned from Indonesia to attend the Africa-Asia Summit and the 60th Anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference.
At no stage did the Nigerian delegation present at that gathering, express its intention to formally raise the issue with the South African side.
“South Africa remains committed to a strong bond of friendship and bilateral relations with Nigeria.
It is for this reason that when 84 of our citizens perished on Nigerian soil, we did not blame the Nigerian Government for the deaths and more than nine (9) months delay in the repatriation of the bodies of our fallen compatriots, or for the fact that when these bodies eventually returned, they were in a state that they could not be touched or viewed as required by our burial practice.
“We will raise our concerns through diplomatic channels with the new administration that will assume office in Nigeria next month.”
In a manner that appears to be a mockery of government’s handling of the insurgency in the country, the statement added that South Africa has been able to bring the xenophobic attack under control and has been receiving support from other African countries.
“Through our interventions, relative calm and order has been restored,” the statement read.
“We are encouraged by the solidarity our country continues to receive from other African countries and the international community.
“We shall also continue to support and not blame the Nigerian government as it battles to deal with Boko Haram that continues to kill many innocent civilians.
We hope that the more than 200 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram will someday be reunited with their families.”

Image of a newborn baby pictured next to gun, grenade and ISIS birth certificate sparks outrage

No comments :
'This child will be a risk to you not just us' an anti-Islamic state activist wrote as he posted this photo on Twitter on Sunday night. The sick photo shows the newborn baby sleeping next to a handgun, hand grenade and an Islamic State birth certificate.

The image was posted through the twitter account of Abu Ward Al-Raqqawi an anti-Islamic State activist in Syria, in the hope of garnering attention to the international threat posed by ISIS.

The post said the newborn child is called ‘Jrah’, while his mothers name is ‘Om’ and his fathers name is ‘Abu.’ It also claimed the certificate next to the baby is an 'ISIS issued ID for a child'. The activist was trying to send a message but the photo has angered millions of people around the world.

Ex-militants, OPC begin N9.3b pipeline jobs today

No comments :
Barring any last-minute change,  former militants and self determination groups will today begin the execution of the N9.3b waterways and oil pipelines contracts.
A memo from the Presidency directed the ex-militants, led by Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), Mujaheedin Asari-Dokubo and Chief Bipobiri Ajube (aka Gen. Shoot-At-Sight) to take over Nigerian waterways and oil pipeline protection from the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as from March 16.
But the contract execution was said to have been delayed because it was uncertain whether the incoming administration would revoke it.
It was learnt that some of the ex-militants did not have enough arms to man the pipelines and needed more time to get well-equipped for the job.
The Federal Government, it was learnt, is set to make a two-month payment out of the   N9.3billion contract sum to the beneficiaries through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The exact amount to be paid could not be ascertained last night.
The security agencies will hand over to the militants today, a source said last night.
The contract was signed on March 16. The companies are owned by some former Niger Delta militants and prominent citizens, including founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Dr. Frederick Fasehun who confirmed that his company was being considered for the multi-billion naira contract.
The OPC National co-ordinator, Otunba Gani Adams, also confirmed to have been awarded the contract, saying it would provide jobs for his “boys”.
Seven companies have been allocated “regions” or operational areas as follows: Egbe Security River One (Bayelsa);  Gallery Security (Mosinmi-Ore); Close Body Protection (Edo State);  Adex Energy Security(Rivers) ; Donyx Global Concept(Lagos and Ogun);  Oil Facilities Surveillance – (Delta) and New Age Global Security (Mosinmi-Ibadan).
The Federal Government was said to have appointed one Engr. Molokwu from the NNPCV Energy and Technical Department as the coordinator.
It was learnt that in 2009, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Ufot Ekaette, presented a memo to the Federal Executive Council for the award of the N1.8billion Kurutie Shoreline Protection and Reclamation contract.
A company, KFT Kpudoh, allegedly owned by Tompolo and another called Phoenica Nigeria Limited, bid for the said contract.
Based on the advice of the Bureau of Public Procurement, after a thorough technical audit, the Shoreline Protection and Reclamation Contract was awarded to Phoenica Nigeria Limited by FEC.
But the award of the contract to Phoenica fetched Ekaette death threats. The government later reviewed the contract.

A source in Warri, Delta State, said the contract for pipelines in Delta State would be executed by Oil Field Surveillance Limited, the same company, which had previously handled it. It is owned by Tompolo.
Nigeria has been battling with huge revenue due to vandalism of oil and gas pipeline.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, recently announced that Nigeria had been losing an estimated 100,000 barrels of crude oil valued at N1.18 billion daily to oil thieves. This amounts to an annual loss of N433.62 billion.
Pipeline vandalism is said to have led to shortage of gas for firing power plants.
The electricity market, which has 5,500MW installed capacity now generates an average of 3,575.85MW following paucity of gas as vandals who always strike whenever the sector is about to hit 4,500MW”.
Adams was quoted as saying that President Goodluck Jonathan deserves praise for approving a contract for the OPC to protect pipelines across the South-West.
Wide criticisms trailed the president’s approval of the contracts. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief   Niyi Akintola, described the plan as an act of corruption which  has no  precedent anywhere in the world.“Why must we encourage the establishment and operation of ex-militants in securing our oil pipelines? What is the responsibility of the Police and the Navy if the ex-militants are to be saddled with the responsibility?” he asked.
Lagos lawyer Festus Keyamo blasted the Federal Government for conceiving the idea in the first place, saying: “It is irresponsible of the Federal Government to give up part of its security to individuals. The money that would be given to such people should be used to equip the Police and the Navy. If this is done, they will perform better.”
Retired Police Commissioner Abubarkar Tsav blamed the plan on the desperation of President Jonathan to win the election at all costs.
Second Republic lawmaker Dr Junaid Mohammed said: “You can’t hire out the functions of the government to an individual no matter how connected they are…”

A’Ibom Warns Residents Against Eating Cow Skin

No comments :
Following the high rate of cancer in Nigeria, the Akwa Ibom state government has warned its citizens against consuming cow skins.
The commissioner for agriculture and natural resources, Godwin Afangideh, disclosed this at a press conference on Sunday in Uyo, the state capital.
According to Afangideh, cow skin, often referred to as Ikpa Ebola or Ponmo is a common cause of cancer and liver problems in the state.
The commissioner, who was represented at the briefing by the Director of Veterinary Services in the state, Dr. Obot Obot, said that the people who patronized cow skin were exposed to both cancer and liver problems as well as diarrhoea and hypertension, due to the high quantity of salt used for its preservation.

He stated that the government had embarked on a sensitisation programme to create awareness on the danger of consuming cow skin.

He said, “The state government, through the veterinary services directorate of the ministry, has embarked on a sensitisation campaign in some markets in the local government areas to talk to the people about the danger of consuming such meat.
“The veterinary officer, who was in charge of the sensitisation campaign, went to different markets and talked to the people on the imperatives of how to watch out for toxic meat following reports of its importation into the country.
“Cow skin meat, which is five times thicker than ordinary skin meat, is injected with a toxic substance called formalin used for its preservation. This formalin in the long run is capable of causing cancer and liver problems due to high concentration of salt used for their preservation.”
Cancer is a public health problem world-wide affecting all categories of people.
—It is the second most common cause of death in developed countries and among the three leading causes of death in developing countries. Cancer affects men and women about equally, but certain cancers tend to be more common in men.
The cancers that most frequently affect men are prostate, colon, lung, and skin cancers.

Terrifying moment a HUGE white shark attacks a film crew standing in a tiny boat

1 comment :
Shocking footage has emerged of the terrifying moment two people stood in a tiny dinghy while a six metre great white shark charged them.

A film crew shooting the documentary Lair of the Megashark were just off New Zealand's Steward Island when they attempted to put a camera on the dorsal fin of the massive ocean predator who decided to nudge the boat and bite at the thin rope that tethered the dinghy to the main boat.
The two men that can be seen on the boat are shark experts Jeff Kurr and Andy Casagrande.
They can be seen panicking as the great white uses it's strong jaws and tail to shake the boat, causing it to sway dangerously.

South Africa and Nigeria clash over xenophobic violence

No comments :
The recent xenophobic violence in South Africa against migrant workers has sparked a new diplomatic rift with Nigeria, with the South African government condemning Nigeria's decision to withdraw its envoys from Pretoria.

On Sunday, the South African government released a statement calling Nigeria's move "an unfortunate and regrettable step" and said the government and a wide range of civic organisations had been "decisive and unequivocal" in condemning the attacks on foreign nationals in the country.
The statement by South Africa’s Department of International Cooperation, however, goes on to deride the Nigerian government over its inability to reign in the Boko Haram insurgency in the north of its country. It also points out that South Africa did not blame the Nigerian government for mishandling the aftermath of the collapse of a church building in 2014, which left 84 South Africans dead.
Nigeria's acting high commissioner in South Africa, Ambassador Martin Cobham, and the consul-general, Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke were called home on Saturday to brief the Nigerian parliament about the welfare of Nigerian citizens in South Africa following the anti-immigrant violence in Durban and Johannesburg.
Tolu Ogunlesi, West Africa editor of the Africa Report magazine, criticised the tenor of the South African government’s statement.
Ogunlesi said it was not logical to compare the Nigerian Church disaster in 2014 to the xenophobic attacks and referring to the church disaster was misplaced in a diplomatic context. The Nigerian government has been criticised for mishandling the response to the collapse, with bodies repatriated some nine months after the incident.
“The statement sounded like the thoughts of someone, rather than a diplomatic response,” he said.
Many South Africans however, including prominent South African analyst, Eusebius McKaiser, have described South Africa’s response as justified.
“This response from South Africa - via Clayson Monyela (deputy director-general of the Department of International Relations and Co-Operation) - is fully justified in my view,” McKaiser wrote on Facebook on Sunday night.
“However it certainly helps neither South Africa nor Nigeria - and definitely not the continent, geopolitically - for diplomatic relations between us to deteriorate,” he added.
Nigeria 'opportunistic'
While some have described Nigeria’s decision to recall its envoy as “opportunistic”, others say the action has only come after public pressure.
“The government did not say anything even in the face of protests almost on a daily basis especially in Abuja and Lagos,” Deji Badmus, a freelance journalist based in Lagos, said.
Badmus told Al Jazeera that the government decided to act following the decision of the parliament and a meeting of the Nigerian senate.
“I don’t think it would have been proper for the Nigerian government to say nothing, do nothing, when, foreigners, not just Nigerians are being attacked in South Africa,” Badmus said.
Jackie Cilliers, executive director of the Institute for Security Studies in Pretoria, however feels that Nigeria's diplomatic withdrawal is not indicative of a continent-wide indictment of the South African government’s failure to stop anti-immigrant violence.
“I don’t think Nigeria’s action is a statement on behalf of the rest of the continent,” he said, adding that the “reality is Africa is multi-polar and there is no singular country that can speak for the entire continent”.
Rift between leaders
Few believe Nigeria’s decision to recall its envoys speaks for anyone other than themselves.
Nigeria and South Africa haven’t enjoyed close relations in the past decade, especially under the leadership of presidents Jacob Zuma and Goodluck Jonathan. Analysts see this rift as part of the larger story of worsening relations between the two countries.
“It has become an all-out contest for influence in Africa between South Africa and Nigeria,” Cilliers said.
Leaders from Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe have publicly condemned the attacks, with both Malawi and Zimbabwe sending buses to repatriate citizens following the violence.
Few doubt however, that the violence has been a blow to South Africa’s image.
“I think African states have reacted quite strongly to the xenophobic violence in South Africa this time,” Cilliers said.
Zuma’s administration has come under much criticism for the violence. But not everyone agrees the South African government’s response has been poor. Cilliers, for one, describes the government’s response as “admirable”.

Tolu Ogunlesi said the latest developments between the two countries was only a manifestation of the quality of leadership in both.
"President Goodluck Jonathan has been a dismal leader and Zuma has also not lived up to his responsibility," he said from Lagos.
“They both don’t inspire confidence within their countries and outside.”
At least seven people in South Africa have been killed in the attacks against migrants since March 20, when South Africa's Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini spoke out against foreign workers.

Hazard takes PFA honour

No comments :
Eden Hazard has been crowned the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
The Belgian was named ahead of Chelsea team-mate Diego Costa, Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, Manchester United’s David de Gea and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Earlier in the day, Hazard and Diego Costa were among six Chelsea players voted into the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year, and the 24-year-old now adds individual honours to what has already been an excellent campaign.
Last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year goes one better this time around, and is recognised by his peers towards the end of a year where he has added incredible consistency to his unquestioned talent.
Thirteen league goals and eight assists tell only half the story - Hazard has completed significantly more dribbles and attracted more fouls than any other player in the league, while drawing praise for his sporting behaviour and cool temperament in the face of aggressive defending. His manager Jose Mourinho, team-mates, pundits and former stars have all expressed their admiration for the Chelsea number 10, who can now count opponents throughout the league among his fans.
Hazard becomes the second Chelsea player to win the award, following John Terry’s success when we lifted our first Premier League title 10 years ago. All at the club congratulate him on the success.

Dokubo Threatens To Deal With Buhari

No comments :
Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo, has for the umpteenth time threatened deal with Mohammadu Buhari if the president elect chooses to imbibe a Pharaoh like regime when he assumes office on May 29.
The ex-warlord also dismissed fears that Buhari could send any one to jail, saying the president-elect does not have the power to imprison anybody.

Dokubo, who was taking a swipe at a Buhari supporter, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, on his Facebook page, made reference to a biblical allusion when he threatened to deal with Buhari in a Moses like manner if Buhari  adopts a Pharaoh like regime.

He said: Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim your Buhari does not have that power to send any body to prison….get that into your piggy skull and nobody is afraid of him….We are waiting for him….following the example of GEAJ does not make us cowards….If he Buhari wants to be a Pharaoh….then he will find a Moses in me.

This is not the first time Asari Dokubo will be uttering such threatening statements, following the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election, Dokubo said he and other militants may be forced to return to the creeks.

I’ll Probe Sanusi’s Allegation Of Missing NNPC $20bn – Buhari

No comments :

President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), on Sunday said his administration would take a second look at the claim by a former Governor of the Central Bank, now Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, that $20bn, that was supposed to be remitted by the NNPC to the federation account, could not be unaccounted.
Buhari said this while receiving a delegation of party supporters and newly elected officials on the platform of the All Progressives Congress from Adamawa State at his campaign office in Abuja.
The President-Elect, who spoke in the local Hausa language, expressed surprise that instead of probing the allegations by the former CBN governor, the authorities chose to fire him.
According to him, since Sanusi’s claim was documented, his administration will take a second look at the document when he assumes power on May 29th.
Buhari said, “On the issue of corruption, I heard that some people have started returning money. I will not believe it until I go and see for myself.
“You all know what the Emir of Kano talked about when he was the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He said $20 billion dollars, not naira, $20 billion dollars, was unaccounted for; they said it was a lie. Instead of investigating it, they sacked him. And God in his infinite mercy made him the Emir of Kano. In any case, that is what he wanted. And since this was documented, the new administration will take a look at it.”
This is against the background of a pronouncement by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has started refunding the unremitted $1.48bn into the federation account.
While expressing gratitude to the visiting delegation, Buhari in response to several requests, said his administration would work in tandem with the manifesto of the APC.
He listed priority areas to include security of lives and property, the economy, job creation and the war against corruption.

Bayern Munich wins German Bundesliga four games to end of season

No comments :
Bayern Munich have been crowned Bundesliga champions for the third time in a row.

Pep Guardiola's men beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 on Saturday to move 15 points ahead of Wolfsburg, who were beaten at Borussia Monchengladbach 24 hours later, thus leaving the Bavarians with an unassailable lead with four rounds of the season remaining.

Bayern wrapped up the title in record time last season, with seven games to go, and while the confirmation this term comes much later, they have been just as dominant domestically.

Bayern have not been knocked off the top of the table since they moved into pole position in week five and have cruised to the title once again. If they win all of their remaining games, they will fall just two points short of last year's total of 90.

Guardiola's team are also on course to win a second European and domestic treble in three years as they remain in contention for the Champions League, where they face Barcelona in the semi-finals, and the DFB-Pokal, in which they will meet Borussia Dortmund in the last four on Tuesday.
