Mario Balotelli posted a photograph of himself holding a thermometer on Instagram to show the "real reason" he was missing from Liverpool's FA Cup replay on Wednesday.
Balotelli, 24, was absent from Liverpool's squad for their 1-0 win over Blackburn that set up an FA Cup semifinal with Aston Villa at Wembley.
With the Italy international having also missed Saturday's 4-1 loss at Arsenal, former Wales international Robbie Savage criticised the striker.
Balotelli has struggled for regular first-team football since signing from AC Milan last summer, scoring four goals in all competitions, while he has not started a game since Feb. 26.
