Witnesses said the bird fell from the sky onto W. 53rd St. near Sixth Ave. about 1:30 p.m.
Passers-by moved the bird to the sidewalk. Police came and examined the bird’s lifeless body before taking it away in a black milkcrate.
One cop said he believed he rescued the same bird three weeks ago when it was hiding in a doorway on W. 57th near Seventh Ave. He turned the bird over to Animal Care & Control after that incident.

The majestic birds have become a somewhat familiar sight around New York in recent years.
In October, police freed a trapped young red-tail hawk from an air shaft of an apartment building on E. 103rd St.
That hawk was taken to The Raptor Trust wildlife sanctuary in Millington, N.J.
